Lukaku shares positive injury update
Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is back running on grass as he continues
his recovery from the ankle injury that has kept him out for close to a month.
The Belgian has been sidelined since being hurt in the 4-0 Champions
League victory over Malmö on 20 October - the same match in which fellow
forward Timo Werner pulled his hamstring.
Neither player has played since, although Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel
had been targeting a return for the pair following the November international
break.
Midfielder Mateo Kovacic suffered his own hamstring injury in training in
late October, joining Lukaku and
Werner in the treatment room.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea's
last Premier League game before the pause, Tuchel said: "If I give you any
date now I need to confirm or give other dates. We have the national break now
then we will be more clear.
"We will use the time and see what is going on during the second
week of the national break. If you ask me the question and I can be more
precise than now. We will use the break, have every day treatment for him, Timo
and Mateo to bring them on the pitch as soon as possible."
With the international break drawing to a close, there has been scant
news about Kovacic and Werner, but Lukaku has posted a
positive update on his recovery.
The Belgium international shared a number of photos of himself running on
the grass at Chelsea's Cobham training ground across his social media channels,
raising hopes that he might be able to play some part when the Blues travel to
face Leicester on Saturday.
If the trip to the King Power comes too soon, Tuchel will hope his number nine is fit for the key European and domestic clashes that follow against Juventus and Manchester United respectively.
